Living Compassion by Tara Brach

We Are What We Watch

Thanks for sharing. I thoroughly enjoyed listening. It was truly so lovely to hear someone speaking "to" instead of speaking "at". And I enjoyed the question on how we can bring compassion into our daily lives. I believe it will happen on a grand and massive scale when our media and entertainment industries begin to do so. It is they who show us visions of who we are, what we are capable of and what our future holds. Every single day, around the world, 24/7... they deliver emotionally charged programs and messages into the homes of billions and billions of people.

Our minds, bodies and thoughts respond to everything we see. Endless studies point to this fact. So I hope the entertainment industry will somehow transform into an industry that shows us how magnificent, compassionate, loving and kind we are capable of being. I hope it undergoes the same evolution that the organic food movement has undergone. Studios and broadcasters are the ones who feed us the fears you speak of; the fear of being seen as "insufficient or boring or unattractive...."

I hope we will find a way to become passionate about non-toxic media the way we did with our food sources. We are what we watch and if we want to see change, we must change what we see.

Until then... thank goodness we have you! :)

In Gratitude,
